Beginner's Guide to Chinese Chess

This tutorial will help you get started with Chinese Chess, from understanding the basics to playing your first game.

1. Understanding the Board

The Chinese Chess board consists of 9 vertical pnes and 10 horizontal pnes, creating 90 intersections. The center pne is called the "Chu River and Han Border", which separates the two sides.

2. Setting Up the Game

Each player starts with 16 pieces arranged in a specific formation. Red pieces move first, followed by black pieces.

3. Basic Game Flow

  1. Players take turns moving one piece at a time
  2. Pieces move according to their specific rules (see above)
  3. The goal is to checkmate the opponent's General

4. Practice Tips

  • Start with the easiest difficulty level to learn the basics
  • Focus on controlling the center of the board
  • Protect your General at all times
  • Try to develop your pieces early in the game
